Q&A with Leighton Thomas

Leighton Thomas shares with us his background and expertise in recruiting and advising part-qualified and newly qualified accountants in West and North Yorkshire.

Can you tell us a little about your background and the area you recruit in?

Certainly! I am currently celebrating my 10th year in the recruitment industry, specialising in Finance and Accounting roles, and with the Yorkshire area being my focus for the last five years. Specifically, I am now developing the careers of part-qualified and newly qualified accountants in West and North Yorkshire. My role allows me to engage with candidates who are on an upward trajectory in their careers and support them during pivotal moments in their development. This goes alongside fostering new relationships with the esteemed clients we have at Pratap Partnership.

What skills and experiences do you bring to this new market?

I am deeply passionate about supporting and guiding candidates, helping them navigate their career paths effectively. Candidates often face significant decisions at this crucial stage of their professional journey, and I aim to be the go-to person for assistance. My extensive experience working with clients who have excelled in their fields has equipped me with valuable insights that I can share with my candidates. This knowledge enables me to provide informed advice and mentorship to those embarking on their careers in finance and accounting.

Knowing how important it is to pick the right Recruitment Consultant – Why you?

I prioritise understanding each candidates’ career aspirations to ensure they are matched with the right opportunities. By deeply understanding both the candidates’ goals and the clients’ needs, I create successful and fulfilling partnerships.

I recognise that the needs and desires of candidates have evolved in recent years; securing the highest salary is no longer the sole driving force behind career moves. It's essential to match candidates with clients who share the same values and commitments, particularly concerning Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) and the working environment. At Pratap Partnership, we know what a good Employee Value Proposition (EVP) looks like. There are so many factors to consider when choosing the right company for you.

I dedicate significant time to each candidate, fostering long-term relationships to support them throughout their careers. My approach ensures that I not only meet their professional goals, but also align them with the right culture and supportive workplace.

Tell us about Leighton outside of work?

I’m very much a family man these days. I have a wonderful girlfriend called Rosie, a beautiful but crazy 18-month-old daughter called Mila, and we are expecting a baby boy in October! Life is very busy for me, but I still find the time to go to the gym and workout. I am currently training for a half marathon, aiming to beat 1:50. I’m not sure I should mention this, working in the West/North Yorkshire market, but I am a season ticket holder at Sheffield United.

If you are currently studying for your CIMA, ACCA, or ACA qualifications, or if you have recently qualified, please do get in touch. I will continue to provide educational and supportive posts on my LinkedIn, so please give me a follow. I look forward to working with you to help you get to where you want to be in your career.
